Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday, May 23 to mark their first IPL 2025 match after a gap of nearly three weeks. While the BCCI had put the IPL 2025 season on a 10-day hold citing security concerns, RCB’s return fixture against defending champions KKR got washed out in Bengaluru on May 17 owing to ceaseless rains.
Virat Kohli, who once held the coveted ‘Orange Cap’, has now slipped to eighth position on the list of leading run-scorers of the tournament, falling behind even to the likes of Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran. Nonetheless, Kohli now finds himself at the brink of a major T20 batting record when he takes field against SRH in Lucknow.
Virat Kohli on the verge of rare T20 record
Virat Kohli has aggregated 8,933 runs in T20s for the RCB franchise across IPL and CLT20 cricket. With 67 more runs, the legendary Indian batter will become the first player in format history to complete 9,000 runs for a single T20 team.
It is worth noting that Kohli has spent the entirety of his franchise career with RCB since making his IPL debut back in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008. Here is a look at five players with most T20 runs to their names for a single team.
Most T20 runs for one team:

Rohit Sharma | 6,036 | Mumbai Indians |
