West Indies faced Uganda in the 18th match of the T20 World Cup 2024. The two teams crossed swords at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Rovman Powell won the toss ahead of the game and opted to bat first. Courtesy of a team effort by the batters, the home team managed to post 173 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. The highest scorer for them was Johnson Charles (44 off 42) who played a stable knock at the top of the order and laid the foundation for the team to a respectable total.

Uganda stumble for the lowest total in T20 World Cups

It looked like a steep target for Uganda, especially given their batting efforts in the previous two games. The West Indian bowling did not disappoint as Akeal Hosein drew first blood in the very first over of the innings.

Akeal Hosein started the march of the Ugandan batters which did not cease. The left-arm spinner picked up five wickets for 11 runs in his four over and broke wrecked havoc in the Ugandan batting line-up.

The batters from the African team were not able to show much resilience as they got bundled out for just 39 runs in 11.3 overs. This became the joint lowest total in the history of the T20 World Cups.

Notably, Uganda recorded the fifth lowest total of the tournament previously against Afghanistan in this very edition, when they were all out for just 58 runs.

As for West Indies, they won the game by a margin of 134 runs, which would give them a huge impetus to qualify for the Super Eights.
