Travis Head And...? 3 Players Who Can Replace Cummins As SRH Captain If He Misses IPL 2025

The mega auction for the Indian Premier League 2025 turned out to be an exciting affair and almost all teams have managed to dish out a quality arsenal with plenty of match-winners. One of those teams is Sunrisers Hyderabad. 

The Orange Army under the leadership of Pat Cummins were brilliant in the last season, and have added some match-winners in their squad for this season too. However, their skipper Pat Cummins recently hurt his ankle and there are some doubts over his participation in the Champions Trophy.

Though IPL is still far away, the seriousness of Cummins injury is unknown and if he does misses out, SRH would not only miss a quality bowler but also an inspiring leader. There are some experienced players in their line-up though, and let's see who can be the three players to lead them in the upcoming edition.

Abhishek Sharma

The young southpaw has grown by leaps and bounds as a cricketer in the last couple of years and is now one of the pillars of SRH's batting line-up. He was retained for 14 Crore ahead of the 2025 Mega Auction and it clearly shows that the franchise is looking at him as a long-term option.

Abhishek Sharma scored 484 runs in 16 matches in 2024 IPL and has gone onto play for India as well. He recently led Punjab as well in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and if Cummins is absent, the SRH management may hand him a leadership role. Abhishek Sharma's place in the SRH XI is unquestionable and having an Indian as a captain is always a plus point which gives the team options to try out different overseas players.

He is also quite a popular player and is on the rise so having him as a captain can help the franchise increase their brand value in long-term.

Heinrich Klaassen

The South African is one of the finest hitters of the cricket ball currently and is an integral part of SRH's batting line-up. He is now an experienced cricketer who has played all over the globe and has been associated with SRH since the 2022 season.

He recently led South Africa in T20Is and has the experience of captaincy at the domestic level as well. Also, he is a wicketkeeper and they tend to get a better view and are anyways important part of field placements, which makes Heinrich Klaasen a good choice. The South African also performed well as a captain against Pakistan, so it could motivate him to do even better in IPL and could work in favour of SRH.

Travis Head

The Australian opener is another good option to lead SRH if Pat Cummins is not available. He is an experienced cricketer, and has played all over the globe and is a respected cricketer. He also recently led Australia against England in T20Is and has the experience of leading Adelaide Strikers in the BBL as well.

He also brings to the table that killer Australian attitude which made SRH successful in the last season and also is the flag-bearer of their ultra-aggressive approach. Thus, Head is an ideal replacement for Pat Cummins and it would help SRH keep that Australian flavour and aggressiveness intact.
