Royal Challengers Bengaluru had one of the best auctions ahead of the IPL 2025 if we compare it to their performance in the other seasons. The management seemed determined to recruit players for all the roles, and they mostly sorted it out by specifically targeting players.

This year, RCB has managed to fill some of its weak points from previous years, such as middle-order batting and balanced bowling. In the case of its overseas recruits, RCB has done a great job. However, a couple of its overseas recruits might not play a big role in its IPL 2025 campaign.

3. Lungi Ngidi

The South African bowler was picked up for a price of INR 1 Cr by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru during the IPL auction. The South African pacer is generally known for his ability to use the new ball in powerplay. However, with Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar on their side, RCB playing Lungi Ngidi looks highly uncertain.

2. Jacob Bethell

One of the most promising talents signed by RCB in the IPL 2025 auction is Jacob Bethell. The young English all-rounder can bring dynamism with the bat in the middle order and also contribute with the ball if and when the team needs it. The franchise acquired his services for a price of INR 2.60 Cr. However, with the four overseas player limitations of IPL in the playing 12, there is little chance that Bethell will be an immediate starter. If one of their starting overseas players fails to deliver as per expectations, then RCB might turn to Bethell; otherwise, he will have to sit out for most of the season.

1. Tim David

Keeping their performance of the last few years in mind, RCB were desperately looking for a power hitter in their line-up. Thus, they acquired the services of Tim David for INR 3 Cr. However, there is a chance that this Australian power hitter might not play in too many games for RCB. This is because, with Tim David in the lineup, there might be an imbalance in their bowling attack, where they are left wanting a proper death bowler alongside Buhvneshwar Kumar.

With David in the playing combination, they will have to use Josh Hazlewood or Yash Dayal as Bhuvhneswar Kumar’s death-over partner. This might pay off in a few games, but does not look sustainable. They might need to think of Nuwan Thushara or Romario Shepherd in their line-up, and hence, David might have to warm the benches during IPL 2025.
