West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican won the ICC Player of the Month award for the month of January 2025 for orchestrating an emphatic series-levelling run for his team in Pakistan. The 32-year-old picked up 19 wickets during the two-match Test series at the Multan Cricket Stadium in the second half of January, and also bagged the ‘Player of the Series’ award for topping the wicket-taking charts.

Warrican won the prestigious ICC honor by defeating some heavy competition from Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy and Pakistan’s enigma machine Noman Ali.

Jomel Warrican wins Player of the Month

Jomel Warrican picked up 19 wickets in just two Test matches for West Indies in Pakistan last month. The cricketer collected nine of those wickets in a match-winning cause during the series-deciding second Test in Multan, orchestrating West Indies’ first Test win in Pakistan soil in 35 years.

Warrican fittingly won the ‘Player of the Series’ award, and was also nominated by the ICC for the ‘Player of the Month’ alongside Varun Chakravarthy and Noman Ali for the month of January.

On February 11, Jomel Warrican won the prestigious ICC honor, thus becoming only the third West Indies cricketer in history after fellow spinner Gudakesh Motie and tearaway paceman Shamar Joseph to do so.

Warrican made his Test debut for West Indies back in October 2015 with a match against Sri Lanka in Colombo. With 19 Test caps to his date so far, the cricketer has picked up 73 wickets at an impressive bowling average of 27.56.

He picked up each of the two five-wicket hauls of his career during the recently-concluded two-match Test series in Pakistan.
