Team India is set to commence their high-profile South Africa tour with a set of three T20I fixtures from December 10 onwards in Durban. The matches serve as India’s first T20I assignment in South Africa in nearly six years, considering they last toured the rainbow nation for a three-game series back in February 2018.

The series also serves as a testing ground for both sides in their road towards next year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies.

India shares its oldest rivalry in T20Is with South Africa, considering the ‘Men in Blue’ started their 20-over international journey on South African shores back in December 2006. Overall, the two teams have gone up against each other 24 times in the format, with their latest meeting being their 2022 T20 World Cup tussle in Perth in October 2022.

Team India holds the edge as per head-to-head battles, winning 13 of their 23 completed fixtures, with the other ending up in a rain-affected no-result.

The Indian team also leads the Proteas by a huge margin across all T20Is played in South Africa. Having eclipsed their hosts five times in their seven meetings, the ‘Men in Blue’, under relatively new skipper Suryakumar Yadav, will be aiming to extend India’s dominance over South Africa at the latter’s home venues this series.
