Colin Munro packed 99 unbeaten punches against Melbourne Stars on the opening night of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024 season at The Gabba. Turning up for Brisbane Heat alongside skipper and opening partner Usman Khawaja, the New Zealand-based T20 freelancer lifted his side to 214 through his 61-ball knock, which featured nine free-flowing boundaries and five towering sixes.
While Munro was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts, the cricketer also shot himself up to serious contention ahead of this month’s IPL 2024 auctions.
Munro jumps to IPL 2024 reckoning with BBL knock
Colin Munro pumped out 99 unbeaten runs for Brisbane Heat in a match-winning cause against Melbourne Stars at The Gabba on December 7, i.e., on the opening night of a brand new BBL season.
The elegant left-handed opening batter belted nine boundaries and five sixes, and top-scored for his side in their colossal 214-run effort upfront. Munro was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ of Heat’s 103-run win, as they bag early points on offer on the BBL 2024 table.
Watch: Highlights from Colin Munro’s blitz
Colin Munro, a New Zealand veteran of over 120 international matches spanning formats, has not been considered for national selection since February 2020. Even though the cricketer engages himself with countless T20 appearances through prominent leagues across the globe, Munro has not found a single home in the IPL since his exit from Delhi Capitals camp in 2019.
His latest blinder at the BBL surely raised his batting stocks by a few notches, as he braces himself for a potential buyout in this month’s IPL 2024 auction. The 36-year-old listed his base price at Rs. 1.5 crore late last month during the IPL 2024 player registration window.
