Gujarat Titans, who have been performing decently ever since announcing their arrival in 2022, do not seem to be the same side in the IPL 2024 as they used to be. They do not have Hardik Pandya any longer, and in his absence, Shubman Gill has taken on the captain’s hat.
The Titans looked like a shaky side in both fixtures, although they won against Hardik-led Mumbai in their tournament opener. The 63-run defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which they endured just now, suggests that they need to address plenty of concerns before taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday in Match 12 of the ongoing edition at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

The biggest worry of the Titans’ is the woeful form of Captain Gill, who doesn’t look as smooth as he did in IPL 2023. Maybe leadership pressure has taken a toll on his batting, and hence, bringing in Kane Williamson, who was injured during the curtainraiser of IPL 2023, could be a good option.
However, keeping Williamson in the playing XI will simultaneously bench Azmatullah Omarzai, who started his IPL career admirably against MI but failed to carry on the momentum against CSK. Considering Omarzai is a like-for-like replacement for Pandya, he has been taking the new ball and has also been playing as an anchor.
So, it is very unlikely that the Ashish Nehra-led think tank will go for Plan B at this phase of the competition. They, in all likelihood, will stick to their playing XI and will take on the field by forgetting their previous outing.
