The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have announced Matt Henry as a replacement player for David Willey, who withdrew from IPL 2024, citing personal reasons.

The experienced New Zealand pacer has been roped in by the franchise for his base price of INR 1.25 crore.

LSG draft in Matt Henry; Willey withdraws

Willey, who previously played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), was drafted in for INR 2 crore, and a lot was expected from the left-arm seamer, considering his stellar record in the T20 format.

Willey joins a long list of English players to have withdrawn from the cash-rich league. Earlier, Harry Brook, Gus Atkinson, Mark Wood, and Jason Roy also pulled out of the league, citing various reasons.

Henry has been a part of Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings in the past and has played only two games in IPL history, both for PBKS in 2017.

Willey’s reason for pulling out from the tournament is still unknown, but it is understood that the pacer wants to spend some time with his family, having travelling constantly for the last year.

Talking about Matt Henry, the New Zealand seamer has represented his nation in 25 Tests, 82 ODIs and 17 T20Is. The Super Giants lost their opening match against the Rajasthan Royals, but will look to bounce back when they take on the Punjab Kings at the Ekana Stadium on March 30.
