The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday (May 14) announced a robust 15-member squad, coupled with two reserves, for the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to take place in the USA and the West Indies in June.

Barring Mehidy Hasan Miraz's omission from the showpiece event, there are no eyebrow-raising surprises among the people who are set to travel.

As expected, Mustafizur Rahman, who skipped the final phase of IPL 2024 for Chennai Super Kings to focus on the World Cup, is back in the mix. Alongside him, the ageless Shakib Al Hasan is also there, with talented Najmul Hossain Shanto leading the pack.

Held in Australia, Bangladesh finished behind the Netherlands before the group-stage exit of the T20 World Cup 2022. Hence, the focus will be to produce an improved performance this time around. However, their job will be tough, with South Africa, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and Nepal joining them in Group D, easily the most competitive pool among the four in the forthcoming event.

Bangladesh have a big headache right at the top of the order, with Litton Das failing to live up to his lofty standards time and time again. Hence, there is a big possibility of him not being in the playing XI from the beginning of the competition, with Soumya Sarkar and Tanzid Hasan joining hands as openers.

Najmul Hossain Shanto should bat at his preferred No. 3, which means Towhid Hridoy can follow him, and Shakib and Mahmudullah can come next. On the other hand, Litton's absence means Jaker Ali, who can finish things off, will take over the wicket-keeping duties.

Preferably, Bangladesh's three frontline fast bowlers should be Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam, while Mahedi Hasan, who can also chip in with handy contributions, is expected to be their only designated spinner, ahead of Tanvir Islam and Rishad Hossain.
