The biggest carnival of Indian cricket, IPL, is all set to kickstart on March 22 and Rajasthan Royals, led by charismatic Sanju Samson have also started their preparation in full flow. They have a strong arsenal this time around with players like Rovman Powell and Nandre Burger coming in to fill the gaps that cost them badly last season.

Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural season but have not been able to repeat those heroics. However, in 2022, they reached the final under the leadership of Sanju Samson and would be itching to make a mark after losing their way midway during the 2023 season.

They were in need of a finisher and a quality lower middle order batter along with a pacer and that have worked decently in that aspect. So, what could be their strongest playing XI this season? Let's find out.

Openers

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler

One of the most dynamic and dangerous opening pair of IPL 2024 is Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler. Both of them can destroy bowling attacks and if they fire in unison, RR would be pretty hard to stop.

Yashasvi smashed 625 runs in IPL 2023 at a strike rate of 163.61 and has come a long way with his exploits at the international level after the IPL 2023. We all know what Buttler did in IPL 2022 and what he is capable of, and we might see him unleashing his full might this season.

The right-hand left-hand combination also provides them an edge and RR would be hoping for some consistent brisk starts from the duo.

Middle order

Sanju Samson (C & WK), Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Rovman Powell

At number 3, there will be Sanju Samson, the captain of the side who is a match-winner on his day. He recently scored his first international ton in South Africa and would be itching to notch up some big scores with T20 World Cup just around the corner.

The number 4 position is an interesting one and we might see Riyan parag filling that spot after he showed his value at that position for Assam in the domestic season. He is talented cricketer and need to deliver this time around with quality players all-around him.

Talking about talent, Dhruv Jurel recently displayed it at Test level and he all the ingredients to succeed in IPL.

The Caribbean duo of Shimron Hetmyer and  Rovman Powell add more power to the batting line-up and they would be playing that crucial finisher role.

Bowlers

Ravi Ashwin, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan

RR have three world-class bowlers in their arsenal. Trent Boult and his new-ball skills are second to none in world cricket and if he gets it right upfront, RR would find them with upper hand, more often than not. Avesh Khan is the other seamer and it would be interesting to see how he goes about this business especially at the death.

The spin duo of Ashwin-Chahal is one of the best in the tournament and that makes RR are a unit that can succeed in varied conditions.
