Sam Konstas To RCB? 3 Teams That Can Sign BBL Star For IPL 2025

On Tuesday, December 17, Australia's budding star Sam Konstas took the cricketing world by storm as he announced his arrival in the Big Bash League in style with a fifty on debut. Playing for Sydney Thunder, Konstas smashed a 20-ball fifty and broke the record for the fastest fifty in the BBL history for the Thunder.

The fans and cricket pundits were impressed by Konstas's strokeplay and also praised his temperament as he also shone against India in the pink-ball warm-up game, where he smashed a century. While the 19-year-old youngster is hogging the internet, this article will shed light on three IPL teams who would keep a keen eye on Konstas and look to sign him as a replacement before the start of IPL 2025.

1. Kolkata Knight Riders

On the same day, Konstas smashed a fifty, KKR dealt a heavy blow as their star opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz suffered a nasty injury and was ruled out of the entire series against Zimbabwe. 

Notably, Gurbaz, who shone for KKR in IPL 2024, suffered suffered Grade 2B quadriceps injury along with a bony hip flexor injury. If given a chance, KKR wouldn't mind roping in Sam Konstas on their side to boost the opening slot. 

2. Punjab Kings

Punjab entered the IPL 2025 auction with the maximum purse value and yet have arguably the most inexperienced opening slot which consists of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. Thus, if they too given a chance, would look to have Konstas open for them in IPL 2025. 

Punjab have the highest number of Australian overseas stars and the appointment of Ricky Ponting as their head coach is a major reason behind it. Thus, Ricky, who is currently commentating in the BBL, would definitely have an eye on Konstas. 

3. Royal Challengers Bengaluru

RCB have a great opening pair in the form of Virat Kohli and Phil Salt. However, they face an injury scare in the form of Josh Hazlewood, who was ruled out of the 3rd Test vs India because of a calf injury. 

Hazlewood is likely to be ruled out of the entire series and his tryst with injuries has become a major concern for the national side and RCB too are sweating hard over his fitness. 

In case Hazlewood gets ruled out of the IPL because of any other injury, then RCB can look at Konstas as the top option to replace Hazlewood.
