Rohit Sharma To Drop Iyer For Rishabh Pant? India's Probable Playing XI For 2nd ODI vs SL

Led by Rohit Sharma, India will cross swords against Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. Considering the first game concluded in a tie, both sides would be aiming at a win to take an unassailable lead in the series.

Regarding India, the Men in Blue must be disappointed after failing to chase a 231-run total in the series opener despite bossing the game.

Although Shivam Dube tried his best, playing a power-packed 25-run cameo, Charith Asalanka ensured a memorable tie for the hosts, taking two wickets on consecutive deliveries.

Will Shreyas Iyer make room for Rishabh Pant?

Coming to India's potential playing XI for the second game, we don't think they will make significant changes to their combination.

Despite falling cheaply, Shubman Gill will get another chance to prove himself, as he has been a vital cog in India's ODI setup.

Talismanic batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be slotted at the top, with KL Rahul and Shivam Dube shouldering the lower middle order.

India will persist with three spin options in their playing XI, considering Colombo's spin-friendly track.

Therefore, despite recording an underwhelming outing with bat and ball, Washington Sundar will spearhead the spin attack alongside the in-form Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer's place could be in danger following his scratchy knock in the first ODI. Iyer, who has impressive numbers at number four, seemed uncomfortable while tackling the rampant Lankan bowlers.

So, given his unimpressive performance, India might consider replacing him with Rishabh Pant in their playing XI.

Although Rohit Sharma has termed Pant as KL Rahul's alternative, the Men in Blue could rope in the southpaw with the series at stake.

This move might work wonders, as Pant's counter-attacking approach can be a massive boost for India on Colombo's challenging track

This will also give Pant a chance to audition for the number four position, keeping the Champions Trophy in mind.
