India recently whitewashed the Sri Lankan team on their home-turf in the T20 format. After the dominating show in the shortest format of international cricket, they are now facing Sri Lanka in ODIs. 


Sri Lanka set a competitive target

In the first ODI at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka batted first after winning the toss. They struggled in the initial stages, but the lower middle-order fought back to take total to a fighting 230 in their 50 overs.

India had a great start to the chase with Rohit Sharma playing some sublime strokes. The Indian skipper scored a quick fire 58 off 47 and laid the foundation for the team. However, Sri Lanka did not give up. They made a roaring come back into the game with three wickets and getting India down to 87/3 in 15.4 overs. 


Kohli and Iyer's wickets bring Sri Lanka into the game

At this stage, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer started the repair job and stitched a partnership of 43 runs off 45 deliveries. Just when it was looking like the duo will cruise India to a comfortable win, Wanindu Hasaranga got rid of Virat Kohli and gave Sri Lanka the window to make another comeback.

This was soon followed by the wicket of Shreyas Iyer. On the second delivery of the 25th over, Asitha Fernando bowled a back of a length delivery that jagged back in after pitching. Shreyas was stunned by the delivery and was left wanting for a better footwork while being rooted at the crease. 

The wicket of Iyer meant that Sri Lanka strengthened their position in the game. At the time of writing India are stationed at 149/5 in 30 overs They need 82 more runs to win the game of 120 deliveries.
