India's premier Test cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin showcased his incredible power-hitting skills in Dindigul Dragons' qualifier 2 encounter against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans (ITT) in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League. Ashwin, who leads Dindigul, promoted himself up the order to seal the game for his team with a magnificent knock.

Bowling first, Dindigul Dragons put up a clinical performance to reduce ITT to a modest 108-run total. P Vignesh emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for the Dragons, scalping three crucial wickets for just eight runs.

During Dindigul's chase, their captain R Ashwin surprised everyone by promoting himself as an opener. Ashwin had already played some blazing cameos and tried to test himself at the top in this game. 

He emulated India's Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma, taking on the ITT bowlers right from the word go. The veteran cricketer rained fours and sixes, recording a spectacular unbeaten 69-run knock off just 30 balls. 

He hammered eleven fours and three massive sixes, powering the Dragons to a commanding win with 55 balls and nine wickets to spare. 

This was Ashwin's second consecutive fifty in the tournament. Earlier, he blasted his way through to a glorious 35-ball 57 against Chepauk Super Gillies in the eliminator. 

Ashwin's team will face Shahrukh Khan-led Lyca Kovai Kings in the high-voltage final of TNPL 2024 tomorrow.
