Rohit Sharma, fresh from his match-winning hundred against England at Rajkot, will take field for Team India at Ranchi on the brink of achieving yet another significant milestone.

At Rajkot, the dashing opening batsman plundered scores of 131 and 19 across both innings of the match, thus setting up India’s emphatic 434-run win over the visitors. The outcome also took India 2-1 up in their ongoing five-match Test series at home.


Rohit Sharma set to join Kohli, Tendulkar among others

Rohit Sharma has so far tallied 987 Test runs against England across all 23 innings. If he scores another 13 runs at Ranchi in India’s upcoming five-day affair, the opening batsman will become the 16th Indian cricketer to reach the landmark figure against England in Tests.

Sharma’s former teammate and all-time great Sachin Tendulkar continues to remain India’s highest run-aggregator against England with 2,535 runs. Sunil Gavaskar, on the other hand, has minted 2,483 runs. Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara as well as former Indian players like MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid and Kapil Dev among several others have also scaled over 1,000 runs against England in their respective careers.

Notably, Sharma’s current teammates Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja both tallied their respective 1,000 runs against England earlier in the ongoing series itself.

Out of the 987 runs conjured by Rohit Sharma, the current Indian captain minted has 240 of them across the first three Tests of this series at an average of 40.

He will now lead the Indian team in the fourth Test at Rajkot’s JNCA International Complex Stadium. The much-awaited contest will be staged between February 23 and February 27.
