In a remarkable achievement, captain Rohit Sharma has recorded the second-highest sixes for India in Test cricket. During the ongoing Test match between India and England in Rajkot, Rohit attained the phenomenal feat, surpassing the legendary MS Dhoni.

Notably, Dhoni was placed second on the list with 78 sixes, with former opener Virender Sehwag claiming the top spot with 90 maximums. However, Rohit, who slammed two sixes during India's first innings, overtook Dhoni to unlock the landmark.

He also equalled Dhoni's tally of 211 sixes to record the joint second-most maximums as captain in international cricket.

Most sixes for India in Test cricket

  • Virender Sehwag- 90
  • Rohit Sharma- 79*
  • MS Dhoni- 78
  • Sachin Tendulkar- 69
  • Kapil Dev- 61

Hailed for his scintillating stroke play, Rohit had a fabulous start to his Test career, notching up magnificent centuries against West Indies in the 2013 home series. Although he blew hot and cold in the next few years, the talismanic Mumbaikar has been an unstoppable force since being promoted to the top order.

After the 2023 World Cup, Rohit suffered a slump in form, recording consecutive failures in South Africa. However, when the chips were down, the veteran cricketer stepped up for his side on day 1 of the third Test, arresting the collapse with a sublime knock.

Riding on Rohit's unbeaten 93 and Ravindra Jadeja's valiant fifty, India are comfortably placed at 174 for three in 49 overs as of writing.
