The last time the two teams met was the 23rd match of this BBL season. The Melbourne Stars triumphed in the thrilling match, defeating the Renegades by five wickets in a match that oscillated throughout. 

Opting to bowl first, the Stars seized early momentum by claiming two wickets in the powerplay. However, the Renegades fought back with a solid 71-run stand between Jacob Bethell (49 off 36) and Jonathan Wells (45 off 31). Laurie Evans provided a late flourish to propel the Renegades to 168/7. Joel Paris (2/23) and Peter Siddle (2 wickets) spearheaded the Stars’ bowling attack effectively.
