Rohit Sharma, the current Indian Test and ODI captain was the talk of the town in the recently held Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to his indifferent form. There have been plenty of rumours floating around his differences with head coach Gautam Gambhir and now a Times Of India report has stated that Rohit was about to retire from Test cricket after MCG Test.
The report further mentions that Rohit Sharma changed his decision to retire from Test cricket after the interference from well-wishers outside the team. His decision to take back his retirement also did not go well with Gautam Gambhir according to the TOI report and if it is true, it further brings out the tension between two big stakeholders of Indian cricket.
The Hitman as Rohit Sharma is fondly known has been battling poor form in Test cricket for a long time. He scored just 31 runs in Border-Gavaskar Trophy and had poor returns against Bangladesh and New Zealand in home games. So, there has been lot of pressure on the Indian captain and he decided to drop himself in the final Test against Australia at SCG.
Rohit Sharma's Test Future Uncertain
During that Test in Sydney, Rohit Sharma also gave an interview where he stated that he is not thinking about retirement, but this latest report from TOI has surely opened new gates. Interestingly, Rohit's name was not part of the 15 that was revealed for the SCG Test and the social media was flooded with Indian captain's praise with some accusing it as PR strategy to save his career.
Rohit has already retired from T20Is and now will lead India in Champions Trophy 2025. However, there is doubt over his future in the longest format and selectors could make some bold calls before India's next Test series.
