Delhi Capitals, who are eyeing their maiden IPL title, completed their squad of 25 cricketers during the IPL 2026 mini-auction on Tuesday at the Etihad Arena in UAE. The Capitals entered the auction with a purse of 16.45 crores. The Axar Patel-led side roped in eight players during the mega-event.

Meanwhile, this article will shed light on Delhi Capitals' strongest XI for IPL 2026.

Top Order: KL Rahul, Ben Duckett, Nitish Rana

Why is there no space for Prithvi Shaw?

Delhi Capitals worked a lot on their opening slot during the auction and roped in three openers - Ben Duckett, Pathum Nissanka, and Prithvi Shaw. However, the Capitals are most likely to promote their star batter KL Rahul back to open the innings alongside Ben Duckett.

For IPL 2025, Rahul played most of the season at No.4, but constantly shuffled his position because of the struggle at the top. However, with KL shifting back to open the innings, it makes space for Vipraj Nigam down the order, making way for a sixth bowling option for Delhi Capitals.

If DC go ahead with Shaw at the top and Rahul at No.4, then they only have five genuine bowling options. Therefore, KL Rahul is all but certain to open the innings.

KL will be accompanied by Ben Duckett, who is on a roll with England cricket and has been striking the ball with a 150+ scoring rate. The two will form a pair of fire and ice, with one going all guns blazing, with the other playing more according to the situation.

Nitish Rana ahead of Abhishek Porel at No. 3

Ahead of the auction, Delhi Capitals traded in Nitish Rana, who is now most likely to bat ahead of Abhishek Porel at No. 3 for the Capitals. Rana had a great DPL, where he amassed 393 runs in 11 innings, averaging 65.50, prompting the Capitals to go after the southpaw.

Middle-Order: Tristan Stubbs, David Miller, Axar Patel, Ashutosh Sharma

Tristan Stubbs and David Miller to spearhead middle-order

For IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals lacked a genuine power-hitter, but they solved the issue with David Miller's buy. The South Africa southpaw will spearhead the middle-order alongside Tristan Stubbs.

The 36-year-old had an underwhelming IPL 2025 compared to his standards with Lucknow Super Giants, where he scored just 153 runs in 11 innings, averaging 30.60, prompting the Giants to release him.

It is a bargain buy given his past heroics in the league, and his numbers are too great to be ignored for a turnaround. Let's look at his IPL stats.

Why Axar Patel needs to be promoted down the order?

For IPL 2025, Axar Patel was used as a floater and often promoted himself above the order. As a result, he struggled to match the tempo of the game and Capitals failed to put big totals on the board. Therefore Axar should demote himself to bat at No. 6 or No. 7, a position he has played at for most of his career.

Rest, Ashutosh Sharma should bat at No. 7, as he has been a good finisher for Delhi Capitals and his heroics need no introduction. The above-mentioned combination also allows the 2020 runners-up to play Vipraj Nigam at No.8 , who can bowl and also do wonders with the bat for the Capitals.

Bowlers: T. Natarajan, Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav, Auqib Nabi

The Capitals have done a massive overhaul in their bowling attack as the management revealed that T Natarajan is fully fit and will play the entire IPL 2026 after featuring in just one match in the previous edition.

Mitchell Starc was Delhi's best bowler and took 14 wickets in 10 innings during IPL 2025, with a strike-rate of 15.00. Coming to Kuldeep Yadav, he will pair up with Axar Patel to form the formidable spin duo. Meanwhile, new recruit Auqib Nabi is most likely to play ahead of Mukesh Kumar for IPL 2026.

Why Mukesh Kumar is unlikely to feature in Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026?

Mukesh Kumar was one of Delhi's primary bowler in IPL 2025 but failed to deliver what was expected from him. Mukesh played 12 games and picked up 12 wickets. He had a game against LSG where he took four wickets. So keeping that aside, Kumar only picked 8 wickets in 11 innings, which is why Delhi are likely to go ahead with Auqib Nabi as their primary bowler.

The right-arm seamer has taken 29 wickets in nine innings, which includes three five-wicket hauls. Most importantly, Nabi can also bat and scored 146 runs in seven innings.
