On Tuesday afternoon, the BCCI unveiled India's 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament. While Shubman Gill made his comeback to the T20I team, Suryakumar Yadav was appointed as the captain to lead the team in the format.
Meanwhile, there are three big names who missed out on selection for the marquee event due to some valid reasons, as mentioned below.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
Criterion | Data |
Innings | 22 |
Runs | 723 |
Average | 36.1 |
Strike Rate | 164.3 |
(Yashasvi Jaiswal's T20I stats)
- Yashasvi Jaiswal has been a prolific performer for India across all three formats. In 22 T20I innings, Jaiswal has amassed 723 runs at an average of 36.1 and a strike rate of 164.3. He also showcased remarkable form in the IPL 2025, scoring 559 runs at a blistering strike rate of 159.71.
- However, Jaiswal was one of the most prominent names to miss out on selection for the Asia Cup, with the BCCI preferring Shubman Gill alongside Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma for the top order.
- As Ajit Agarkar stated in the press conference, Gill has been recalled to T20Is, with India aiming to make him the all-format captain after the T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Samson and Abhishek's excellent numbers as T20I openers meant Jaiswal couldn't make it into the Asia Cup squad.
Ravi Bishnoi
Criterion | Data |
Innings | 42 |
Wickets | 61 |
Average | 19.4 |
Strike Rate | 15.8 |
Economy | 7.36 |
(Ravi Bishnoi's T20I stats)
- Ravi Bishnoi had replaced Yuzvendra Chahal in India's T20I squad a few years back. The right-arm spinner has had a fantastic career, scalping 61 wickets at a superb strike rate of 15.8.
- However, the emergence of Varun Chakravarthy shut the doors for Bishnoi, making him a backup spinner in the T20I side. Furthermore, Kuldeep Yadav, who was India's lead spinner in the T20 World Cup, was preferred for the crucial Asia Cup, with Bishnoi making room for him in the team.
Prasidh Krishna
- Prasidh Krishna had a breakthrough IPL season this year, emerging as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament. In 15 matches, Krishna bagged 25 wickets, showcasing his bowling prowess in the format.
- Considering his red-hot form, it was expected that the BCCI would bring him back for the Asia Cup. Prasidh is a hit-the-deck bowler, and his extra pace could've added variety to the Indian pace attack. However, the Indian think tank preferred Harshit Rana over the tall seamer, sticking with their first-choice player for the third seamer's role.
