Swashbuckling South African batter Dewald Brevis had a forgettable outing in his first ODI match as he was dismissed for six runs off Travis Head's bowling. Coming at number six, Brevis smashed a first-ball six before Head got his revenge with a timely breakthrough.

Brevis Hits 1st Ball Out Of The Park, Gets Out On Next Delivery

Dewald Brevis' maiden ODI outing involved a dramatic moment as he was dismissed right after dispatching the first ball for a six. The in-form batter entered the middle after Travis Head dismissed Tristan Stubbs for a duck. Considering his batting exploits in the T20Is, South Africa expected the young batter to provide their innings a fitting finish. However, before he could make the start count, Head got rid of him with his handy off-spin.

Brevis had an outstanding start to his innings, dismissively hitting the first ball for a maximum. However, Travis Head had the last laugh, luring him into another big shot and forcing a mistake.

From over the wicket, Head pitched the ball up despite getting hit for a six on the third delivery of his over. As Brevis tried to send the ball out of the park, he found the fielder at long on, with Alex Carey taking a simple catch to send him back to the dugout.

Thus, Brevis, who emerged as the top scorer in the T20I series, got out cheaply in his first-ever ODI innings. He was overall the twelfth player after Coetzee, De Kock, Marchant de Lange, De Villiers, Jansen, Maphaka, Ngidi, Parnell, Phehlukwayo, Rabada and Sipamla to make international debut for South Africa aged 22 across formats.

Talking about the match, South Africa lost the plot after scintillating fifties from Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma and Matthew Breetzke. As of writing, South Africa were 264 for five, with Bavuma and Mulder batting on 64* and 17*, respectively.
