In match 42 of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosts West Indies will square off against England in their first Super Eights clash at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.

England have played average cricket so far in the tournament, as they had to depend on Australia's victory against Scotland to secure a spot in the Super Eights.

In contrast, the West Indies have played phenomenal cricket and remained undefeated in the tournament ahead of the Super 8.

West Indies Journey So Far

In the upcoming match against England, West Indies are likely to open with the same pair of Brandon King and Johnson Charles.

However, neither opener has been in great form, facing challenges in scoring runs during the tournament. So, the team will expect them to start well and score some quick runs to provide momentum at the start of the innings.

Nicholas Pooran, the wicketkeeper-batter, regained his form, showcasing incredible power-hitting in the previous game, scoring 98 off 53 balls against Afghanistan.

Roston Chase will likely play at the number 4 position and strengthen the middle order. Captain Rovman Powell's leadership is pivotal as he will want to contribute with the bat at No.5, while Sherfane Rutherford is expected to show his match-winning capabilities at six.

The bowling unit of West Indies has been in commendable form and has turned things in favour of the co-hosts.

Akeal Hosein has shown commendable form, providing much-needed breakthroughs at crucial junctures. Gudakesh Motie has provided depth to the bowling attack, while Alzarri Joseph has been outstanding with the ball.

So, considering the conditions and the Caribbean wickets, the team will expect the bowlers to continue in good form and keep the momentum going.

However, in the last match against Afghanistan, left-arm fast bowler Obed McCoy replaced Shepherd in the playing XI and Shai Hope was also included, with Roston Chase given a rest.

But against England, Romario Shepherd will likely be available for selection, and Chase is also likely to regain his place in the playing XI.
