India are currently playing against England in the second T20I match of the five-match series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. India won the toss for the game and put England to bat.
The visitors struggled at the beginning of the innings, and it looked like India would dominate the proceedings. However, courtesy of the middle-order and lower-middle-order, England managed to reach a fighting total of 165/9 at the end of their 20 overs.
In the chase, England made a brilliant comeback. They picked up India's first two wickets and pressured the home team. Tilak Varma came out to bat after the fall of the first wicket and tried to deliver a counterpunch to the English bowlers.
Tilak Varma Blasts Archer For 16 Runs
In the fifth over of the innings, Varma blasted Jofra Archer, England's fastest bowler, and tilted the game in favour of India to some extent. On the first delivery of the over, Varma moved away from the line and cut away a short ball for a boundary. On the second delivery, Varma whipped a good length delivery outside the off stump over deep square leg fence for a maximum. The next delivery was a drop, but Varma delivered another punch on the fourth ball. It was a back of a length delivery at the off and middle line that Varma tried to pull, but he got a top edge that sailed over the fine leg fence for a maximum.
Even though Varma's hitting set India's chase in motion, they soon fell behind as they lost wickets quickly. As India lost half their side, the onus fell on Washington Sundar and Tilak Varma to take the team home.
