At long last, Australia begin their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Oman in the tenth match of the tournament. The 2021 champions will be looking to complete the cricketing treble for the season. With the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup already in their bag, a T20 World Cup will assert their domination in international cricket.

Pat Cummins, who led them to Test and ODI glory this season, will not lead the team in this World Cup. Mitchell Marsh has been handed the responsibility for the T20s.

Australian management has shown faith in their tried-and-tested customers, such as David Warner, Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, and Azam Zampa, for the tournament.

Even though David Warner did not have a great time in IPL 2024, they will be starting the tournament with him as their opener. Warner's experience will be crucial to their campaign in the tournament. Head's current form with the bat probably makes him the first name on the team sheet.

Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis will be providing solidity to the middle-order. Tim David will be the designated power-hitter or finisher for the team. However, Maxwell's inclusion in the playing XI will be an interesting dilemma for them.

Glenn Maxwell had a terrible IPL 2024 season. He scored only 52 runs from nine innings in the tournament at an average of 5.77. However, there has been indications that the Aussie management is not attaching great importance to Maxi's IPL form. He has proven himself for his country on the big stage previously and thus they will be trusting him to do the same in this tournament. Besides his batting, Maxwell can be handy with the ball on the USA and West Indian wickets. Thus there are little chances that the Aussie superstar will be dropped from the playing XI.

Adam Zampa is expected to play a crucial role for the Aussies in this campaign as most of the wickets have been on the slower side so far in the tournament. However, considering how the wicket has behaved in Barbados and the strength of the opposition, the pace trinity of Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood will be in focus of their tournament opener.

The Test and ODI world champions have chosen two wicketkeepers in their 15-man unit. However, given their current form, expected impact, and team composition, one can hope that Josh Inglis will be their preferred choice for this position, at least initially.

Here is a look at Australia's probable playing XI for their first T20 World Cup 2024 match against Oman.
