In a significant development, the IPL has fined the Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians players for violating a major rule in Qualifier 2 of the tournament's ongoing season. On Sunday, Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer, defeated Hardik Pandya's MI by five wickets, qualifying for the final of the competition. However, as soon as the game concluded, captains and the players from both sides faced hefty sanctions for violating an IPL code of conduct.

PBKS, MI Players And Captains Fined For Slow Over Rate

As stated by the IPL, Shreyas Iyer and the other members of the Punjab Kings playing XI, including the impact substitute, were penalised for maintaining a slow over rate in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians.

It was Punjab's second over rate offence of the season; so, skipper Iyer was fined INR 24 lakhs, while the other players were sanctioned either INR 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.

However, Mumbai Indians committed the error for the third time in IPL 2025. Therefore, MI skipper Hardik Pandya was sanctioned a massive amount of INR 30 lakhs, while his teammates, including the impact player, were fined either 12 lakhs or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.

Iyer's Clinical Knock Eliminates Pandya's MI From IPL 2025

The second qualifier between MI and PBKS was a see-saw battle which the Kings convincingly won by five wickets. Although valuable contributions from Jonny Bairstow, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir powered MI to 203 in 20 overs, the PBKS batting unit, led by skipper Iyer, showcased nerves of steel, chasing the target in 19 overs.

Shreyas Iyer led from the front with the bat, amassing a glorious unbeaten knock of 87 runs with the help of five boundaries and eight monstrous sixes.
