RCB bowling attack for IPL 2025 [Source: @iplt20.com]
Cricket's biggest carnival, Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to commence as the ten team tournament will begin from March 22 as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opening match. RCB, one of the most popular teams in the league is still searching for their maiden IPL title.
The RCB team management assembled a strong squad and unlike previous years, focused on buying match-winners, rather than investing in superstar signings. Their batting looks strong as usual, but the bowling is still a mystery. With the season starting in a week's time, we look at RCB's probable bowling lineup, with two experienced players leading the charts.
Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to lead the bowling attack
Two experienced players and veterans of the game will be the leader of the RCB bowling attack. Both Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have immense experience in the IPL and will be the key players for the team. Both can bowl in the power-play and can contribute in the death overs as well.
Criterion | Bhuvneshwar Kumar | Josh Hazlewood |
---|---|---|
Matches | 176 | 27 |
Wickets | 181 | 35 |
Average | 27.23 | 23.14 |
Economy | 7.56 | 8.06 |
(Bhuvi, Hazlewood stats in IPL)
The two has excellent stats in the IPL and if RCB are to win the title, the duo need to deliver the goods.
Yash Dayal, the third seamer in the attack
The left-arm pacer was trolled for his one over in the IPL 2023 season, but he had a redemption arc as RCB trusted him and Yash Dayal delivered the goods. Another player who can be an excellent death over, Dayal is cool and calm and has the wicket-taking ability will be crucial for the team.
A weakened spin attack?
One area of concern for RCB was their spin attack for the season. In Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya, RCB have a weakened spin attack, and they don't have a replacement for Suyash if he gets injured.
Criterion | Suyash Sharma | Krunal Pandya |
---|---|---|
Matches | 13 | 127 |
Wickets | 10 | 76 |
Average | 37.20 | 34.29 |
Economy | 8.65 | 7.37 |
(Suyash and Krunal IPL stats)
However, Krunal's batting abilities at number 7 will be useful for the team, and RCB have shown immense trust in Suyash and the spinner has a chance to repay the faith.
Rasikh Salam Dar is another shrewd buy by RCB and most likely, he will be used as an impact player. If RCB is bowling second and need to defend a total, they can call in Rasikh Dar as their impact substitute.
Other bowling options
Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, and Tim David, but out of them, only Liam Livingstone is likely to get a place in the playing XI and he can chip in with quality 2-3 overs.
RCB Probable bowling lineup
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, Suyash Sharma, Krunal Pandya, Yash Dayal, Rasikh Dar (impact sub), Liam Livingstone.
