The Bahrain national cricket team failed to score a run in its Super Over against Hong Kong in the fifth match of the 2025 Malaysian tri-nation T20I series. Bahrain captain Ahmer Bin Nasir and Sohail Ahmed were both dismissed for ducks by off-spinner Ehsan Khan before Hong Kong’s Babar Hayat scored the required run with three balls to spare.
The outcome granted Hong Kong its second win of the tri-series on March 14, and they secured another huge win over Malaysia the following day to finish second on the points table. Notably, Bahrain still finished the opening round of the series on top of the table with six points courtesy of three wins from four matches.
Bahrain scores 0 in Bizarre Super Over effort
Bahrain went up against Hong Kong in the fifth match of the Malaysia tri-nation T20I series on March 14 at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. Batting first, Bahrain bowlers restricted Hong Kong to just 129-7 from 20 overs. Rizwan Butt picked up two wickets in the innings while his teammates Ali Dawood, Imran Anwar and Abdul Majid chipped in with a wicket each.
For Hong Kong, Shahid Wasif top-scored with a fiery 31 during the backend to overcome the continuous loss of wickets from the other end.
In response, Bahrain lost eight wickets to reach just 129 from 20 overs to meet a deadlock with Hong Kong. Opener and wicketkeeper-batter Prashant Kurup made 31 off 37 and captain Ahmer Bin Nasir clubbed 36 runs from just 24 balls to top-score in the innings. However, a three-wicket burst from Yasim Murtaza proved too much to handle for Bahrain’s struggling batters.
In the ensuing Super Over, Ehsan Khan dismissed both Bahrain batters Ahmer Bin Nasir and Sohail Ahmed for ducks before Babar Hayat notched up the winning runs for Hong Kong.
Bahrain and Hong Kong will now face each other in the final of the Malaysia tri-nation T20I series on Monday, March 17 in Kuala Lumpur.
