Conclusion While Tongue might be the leading wicket-taker of the series, but it is most likely that the right-arm seamer will sit out in the 2nd Test to make space for Jofra Archer. There are a few key points which led to the conclusion that Woakes and Carse should play ahead of Tongue.
Firstly, Woakes, despite taking just one wicket, adds a lot to the batting prowess and deepens the batting strength. Thus, to remove him from the playing XI, will weaken the Three Lions' batting structure, which they wouldn't like after a good win in the first Test, which also included Woakes' 38-runs knock.
