Karun Nair Walks Back - (Source : AP)
It’s déjà vu for Indian fans as the tail-enders have again disappointed with a sudden collapse from a comfortable position. Similar to the first innings, England triggered a collapse on Day 4 as India lost five wickets for just 16 runs.
Notably, in the second innings, the visitors were in the driving seat at 333/4 with KL Rahul and Karun Nair at the crease. There were discussions about the right time for declaration, but these quickly became irrelevant as England picked up five wickets, with India adding just 16 more runs to the total.
KL Rahul and Karun Nair were the first two to depart, but Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur managed to add a few more runs. However, Ben Stokes brought Josh Tongue into the attack, and he picked up three wickets in a single over.
Josh Tongue Picks Up Three Wickets in an Over
On the first ball of the 91st over, Tongue dismissed Shardul Thakur, who edged one straight to Joe Root at first slip. On the next delivery, Tongue tested Mohammed Siraj with a short-pitched ball, and Siraj failed to duck in time, resulting in an easy catch for the keeper.
Not only did Siraj walk back for a duck, but he also injured his finger. Next up was Jasprit Bumrah, who defended the hat-trick ball but saw his stumps rattled on the fourth ball of the over.
India Collapsed in the First Innings
In the first innings, India were comfortable at 430/3 but only managed to post 471 runs on the board, losing their last seven wickets for just 41 runs.
It has been a mixed game for the Indian batters: the top five players have contributed 721 runs to the total, while the rest of the team added just 52 runs.
