Litton Das, on Thursday, etched his name in the history books as he surpassed veteran Mushfiqur Rahim in an elite record. He became the Bangladesh keeper with the most dismissals in Test history, a record which was previously held by Bangladesh's finest, Mushfiqur.

Last week, Litton drew level with Mushfiqur during the first Test Vs Sri Lanka with 113 dismissals and on Thursday, the talented keeper overtook the veteran and reached the top of the mountain with his 114th dismissal, which was a simple catch taken to dismiss Dinesh Chandimal. In total, Litton has 99 catches and 15 stumping to his name.

In terms of Test cricket, Litton has now become the most successful Bangladesh keeper, a feat which looked impossible to achieve, a few years ago. With Litton getting the keeping nod over the 38-year-old star, it is highly unlikely that the old guard will be able to catch the current keeper in terms of dismissals.

What makes Litton Das a brilliant keeper?

Several aspects make Litton a special keeper. He is agile and has fast reflexes which makes him a brilliant commodity. Plus, keeping against Bangladesh spinners requires a different skillset as the keeper needs to be on his toes, a trait that Litton possesses.

Moreover, he is equally good against spin and pace and hence, Bangladesh prefer him over Mushfiqur in Tests.

How letting go off captaincy has helped Mushfiqur

It is as if Mushfiqur is free of burden since his keeping duties were taken away by the Bangladesh board. Over the years, he has done well as a pure batter in red-ball cricket and in the first Test Vs Sri Lanka, the veteran player showcased his skills and slammed a majestic century (163) and helped his side to a huge total. Then again in the second innings, the right-hander looked gutsy.

On a surface that was spinning, the 38-year-old accumulated 49 runs and looked at his imperial best as the Test match was a drawn affair.
