New Owners For Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans? CVC Capital To Sell IPL Stakes To Adani Group

As per emerging reports, CVC Capital Partners are planning to divest a majority stake in the IPL ownership of Gujarat Titans, valued between 1-1.5 billion US Dollars. 

According to The Economic Times, the Luxembourg-based private equity firm is in talks with the Adani Group and Torrent Group, to which it might sell a majority of its stake in the Titans. However, as the report claims, CVC Capital Partners will retain a minority interest after the sale. 


CVC Capital to divest a majority stake in GT ownership

The CVC Capital Partners acquired the ownership of Gujarat Titans for a whopping amount of Rs. 5625 Crores in 2021, one year before the team made its maiden Indian Premier League appearance. 

Along with the ownership, in came a lock-in period of four years, which is set to expire soon. The Board of Control for Cricket in India prevents the franchises from selling their stake before the lock-in period. 

However, as the lock-in period expires in February next year, CVC Capital Partners are planning to exit the ownership of the Titans, who clinched the title on their very first attempt. 

Notably, both Adani Group and Torrent Group initially showed interest in the franchise, bidding Rs 5,100 crore and  4,653 crore, respectively. 


Gujarat Titans: Performance over the years

Gujarat Titans have been highly successful in the IPL, playing two finals and winning one inside three years. 

After Hardik Pandya left the franchise for a lucrative 15Cr deal with Mumbai Indians, GT named young batter Shubman Gill as his successor

However, the young batter had a torrid start to his leadership stint, with the Titans finishing eighth on the ten-team standings.
