As Gautam Gambhir steps into the role of head coach for the Indian cricket team, former captain Virat Kohli has made it clear that past conflicts will not hinder their professional relationship.

Despite the intense on-field exchanges between the two cricketers, Virat Kohli has assured the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he is ready to move beyond their past differences for the benefit of the team.

With Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach ending, Gambhir emerged as a top candidate for the role, owing to his recent successes in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kohli, who is set to participate in the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka, will be working alongside Gambhir for the first time in a team setting.

Speculations about their dynamic were fueled by their previous altercations on the field, but recent interactions during the IPL 2024 suggested a thaw in their relationship.

Gambhir had previously downplayed the significance of their clashes, emphasizing that their personal bond was not for public consumption.

Kohli echoed this sentiment, stating that their on-field disputes were behind them. The BCCI, thus, has no concerns about the potential impact of their past issues on team harmony.

As India gears up for the ODI series against Sri Lanka, which starts on August 2, both Kohli and Gambhir will be key figures in the squad, with Rohit Sharma leading the Men in Blue.
