IPL franchises like Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru boast immense popularity, one which is defined by a passionate fanbase and a glittering history. Moreover, the three franchises are headlined by the likes of Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli; arguably three of India’s greatest cricketing stars to have made their debuts this century.

Certain IPL players, both Indians as well as overseas stars, have had the privilege of turning up for each of the three popular franchises at some point during their playing careers. Here at OneCricket, we take a look at each cricketer who has played at least one match for MI, CSK and RCB.

6. Parthiv Patel

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel started off his IPL journey back in 2008 with CSK, and was part of the team’s title-winning unit in 2010. After spending the first three seasons at CSK, he played for three different franchises in the next three years until he landed a spot in RCB for IPL 2014. Patel played three IPL editions for the RCB in two different gigs, the other being his final two IPL appearances of 2018 and 2019.

The Gujarat-born cricketer seems to have flourished the most at Mumbai Indians under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. An integral member of Mumbai Indians’ title triumphs twice in his three-year stint, Parthiv Patel contributed to their victorious cause with 339 runs in 2015 and 395 runs in 2017.

5. Tim Southee

New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee has appeared in 10 different IPL editions for five different franchises since his debut. He started off with CSK in 2011, but made little contribution to their victorious campaign that year. Southee joined Mumbai Indians in 2016 and even lifted the trophy the following year after spending two seasons at the Rajasthan Royals.

The legendary paceman was subsequently acquired by the RCB franchise in 2018, where he spent two seasons alongside the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

4. Karn Sharma

Karn Sharma played a solitary game for RCB in IPL 2009 in South Africa, and had to wait for four more years before landing his next IPL gig, with SRH roping him in 2013 as an uncapped Indian cricketer. For the 2017 season, he joined the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians group, where he played a proficient role in their title glory by claiming 13 wickets in just nine matches. In spite of enjoying a prolific season with the ball, Karn Sharma found a new home at CSK the following year, where he played 12 matches in the space of three different IPL seasons.

Sharma returned back to RCB in 2023 and is currently one of the key components of their line-up, both as a leg-spinner as well as a lower-order pinch-hitter.

3. Chris Jordan

Lanky English paceman and all-rounder apparent Chris Jordan has played seven IPL seasons for five different franchises since 2016. When he was not playing for the SRH and Punjab Kings between 2017 and 2021, he was plying his cricketing trade for RCB, CSK and Mumbai Indians.

Jordan made his IPL debut in 2016 for RCB and bagged an impressive haul of 11 wickets in their runners-up campaign. He joined CSK in 2022 and played four matches, and was roped in by the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians franchise for the year 2023.

2. Adam Milne

Adam Milne is one of only three overseas stars to have turned up for RCB, CSK as well as Mumbai Indians. Remarkably, Milne’s IPL career is restricted to just the three aforementioned franchises, having played 10 matches between them in a period of four different IPL seasons.

Milne made his IPL debut in 2016 for RCB where he played five matches until the following edition of the tournament. It took him four years to bag another IPL deal, doing so at the Mumbai Indians for 2021 and before landing a one-year stint at CSK in 2022.

1. Robin Uthappa

Perhaps the most prominent name among all players to have played for RCB, CSK as well as Mumbai Indians is none other than former Indian cricketer and 2007 T20 World Cup-winning star Robin Uthappa. One of the quintessential journeymen of IPL, the attacking right-handed batter made his debut in 2008 for the Mumbai Indians before spending the subsequent two seasons at RCB.

Thereafter, Robin Uthappa spent nearly a decade between Pune Warriors India, KKR and Rajasthan Royals. At the twilight of his career, Uthappa landed an unexpected gig at CSK, where he was part of their title-winning unit in 2021.
