Varun Chakaravarthy and CSK - (Source:@Johns/X.com)
All ten franchises have built a solid team after two days of intense battle in Jeddah at the mega auction. Looking at every squad, there are a few shortcomings, but overall, everyone has done a decent job and picked up the side as per their home conditions.
One of the crucial parameters of a successful side is to have every set of players. While T20s has developed into a batters' game and all the spotlight is with them, the bowlers also play a crucial role. Thus, this article will analyse the spinners of each team and rank them accordingly.
1. CSK: Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Noor Ahmed - 9/10
It is not a hidden fact that Chepauk favours the spinners. However, for the last few editions, CSK lacked proper spinners, but they filled that gap in the recently concluded auctions. They bought Ashwin and Noor Ahmed, two quality spinners to pair up with Jadeja.
While Ashwin knows how to stop runs from one end, Noor's mystery spin will baffle the batters. Meanwhile, Jadeja is known for his turners and takes wickets whenever required. Thus, CSK have a solid spin bowling trio.
2. Delhi Capitals: Axar Patel And Kuldeep Yadav- 8/10
Delhi have had the same spin attack for a long time now, as Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav have instilled fear in the opposition and have proved to be effective time and time again.
Axar is more quicker in the air and keeps the scoreboard in check, while Yadav capitalises on the pressure created by Axar and takes wickets from the other end.
3. Gujarat Titans: Rashid Khan, Sai Kishore And Washington Sundar - 8/10
For Gujarat, they have arguably the best T20 spinner in the world in the form of Rashid Khan. In the past few years, they have never felt the requirement of any other spinner, as Rashid has himself donned several hats.
Nonetheless, they too have Washington Sundar, who can bowl effectively four overs of spin and put breaks on the opponent's scoring rate. Meanwhile, Kishore, who struggles for game time, is an effective spinner and can take wickets.
4. KKR: Varun Chakaravarthy, Sunil Narine, Mayank Markande - 9.5/10
Varun Chakaravarthy is in the form of his life as he took 21 wickets in IPL 2024, the most by any spinner in that season. Further, Varun is also shining in Indian colours.
Further, Sunil Narine needs no introduction as he was the MVP in IPL 2024 for his contribution with the bat and the ball. They have also added Mayank Markande as a replacement for Suyash Sharma.
5. LSG: Ravi Bishnoi And Shahbaz Ahmad - 6.5/10
LSG did not invest much in the spinners and have a sole spinner in the form of Ravi Bishnoi, whom they retained ahead of the IPL auction.
Bishnoi has grown over the years but is yet to reach his full potential. Notably, in IPL 2024, Bishnoi took just ten wickets, six less than what he performed in IPL 2023.
6. Mumbai Indians: Allah Ghazanfar - 6/10
Mumbai have always invested in fast bowlers and have relied less on their spin prowess. For the upcoming season, they have roped in Allah Ghazanfar, the Afghanistan mystery spinner, who has a lot of potential.
Since, Ghazanfar is also an overseas star, it is to be seen whether he gets a place in the playing XI.
7. Punjab Kings: Yuzvendra Chahal - 7.5/10
Punjab Kings went for a complete overhaul for the upcoming season and to look after the spin department, they roped in Yuzvendra Chahal for a whopping 18 crores.
However, apart from Chahal, they only have Glenn Maxwell, who is not a proper spinner. Although, he can chip in four overs, but Chahal is PBKS's sole spinner.
8. RCB: Krunal Pandya, Suyash Sharma And Liam Livingstone - 5.5/10
RCB have a poor spin attack despite knowing how spinners can be vulnerable at the Chinnawamy Stadium. Nonetheless, they have roped in Krunal Pandya and Liam Livingstone, who can bowl out 8 overs for them, but they aren't proper spinners.
Pandya has done a decent job for LSG with the ball in the past, but Livingstone hasn't been consistent and reliable when it comes to spinners to take wickets.
9. RR: Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga - 7.5/10
Rajasthan Royals have got a great spin attack as well. They roped in two Sri Lankan star bowlers in the form of Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga.
Both spinners are totally different, as Theekshana has more pace and bowls stumps to stumps with a few variations. Further, Hasaranga is slow in the air and likes to keep the batter guessing.
10. SRH - Adam Zampa, Rahul Chahar - 6/10
Zampa is the sole spinner for SRH, and that won't rank them as the best spin side in the IPL. No doubt, the Aussies spinner is good, but putting responsibilities solely on his shoulders won't be good for Hyderabad.
Also, Rahul Chahar is in poor form as he struggled during the Emerging Asia Cup.
