With a lost of twists expected to happen along with some major changes in the team dynamics, it will be interesting to see how all the franchises set up their team ahead of the tournament.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the trophy in 2016. They have done well in parts but consistency has been a struggle for them. Come the next edition of the tournament, SRH will be looking to build a stronger core. The best strategy to build a team for the future will be to hold on to some players from the current squad to solidify the core, while blend in some new names to add dynamism and flexibility to the squad.

The BCCI is yet to confirm the retention rule for the upcoming season. However, there are reports that they will allow the franchises to retain five players from the current squad without any RTMs. Here are five players that SRH will be looking to retain from their current squad ahead of the mega auction -

5. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

The veteran Indian medium pacer has been an integral part of the team for the past few seasons. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has played 145 matches for the franchise and has picked up 156 wickets in them while maintaining an economy of 7.73. The versatility of Kumar to bowl in any stage of game along with the vast experience he has at present makes him a crucial part of the SRH set up. The management will look to use his experience to groom the future bowlers.

4. Nitish Reddy

This young Indian all-rounder proved himself in the last edition of the tournament. In the 15 matches that he played in IPL 2024, Reddy scored 303 runs at a strike rate of 142.92. Besides being consistent and able to score runs at a good rate, Reddy displayed his skills to prosper under pressure. Reddy also showed that he can be valuable to the team with his bowling abilities too. In order to hold on to his all-round dexterity, SRH will retain Nitish Reddy

3. Abhishek Sharma

The young Indian opener showed his dynamism in IPL 2024. In 16 games, Abhishek Sharma scored 484 runs at a strike rate of 204.22. His opening stand with Travis Head was the prime reason that SRH pulled ahead in most of the games. The blazing starts he provided along with the Australian openers make him one of the key retentions of SRH ahead of the next season.

2. Travis Head

In IPL 2024, Travis Head scored 567 runs at a strike rate of 191.55. So, Head was not only destructive but also was consistently doing it. His partnership with Abhishek Sharma was something that put the team in the driver's seat in most of the games. Given the change in approach that his batting brought, Head will probably be the second retention of SRH.

1. Pat Cummins

The Australian pacer's biggest contribution was the way he led the team in IPL 2024. Pat Cummins brought about a change in how SRH play their game. The unit looked to endorse a brave and daring brand of cricket. Besides being an inspirational leader, Cummins came with impactful and game-changing performances at crucial stages in important matches. All these things will probable induce the management to keep Pat Cummins as their number one retention.
