The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League is scheduled to take place in six to seven months. Although there is time before the season's arrival, IPL 2025 is already a hot topic of discussion among the fans. The mega auction scheduled ahead of the season is keeping the fans excited as it will lead to a change in the dynamics of all the squads.

The retention rules for the upcoming season of the tournament are still shrouded in uncertainty, with the BCCI yet to confirm them. However, reports are rife that they will be allowing five retentions to each team and no RTMs (Right To Match), adding an element of intrigue to the upcoming season.

Chennai Super Kings are the most successful team in the tournament. Recently, they saw a change in captaincy when MS Dhoni stood down from the role and handed over the responsibilities to Ruturaj Gaikwad. There have been talks around CSK pushing the BCCI to bring back the rule of retired players being considered uncapped players to hold on to MS Dhoni. Besides, it has always been a franchise that has believed in keeping a solid core. Given all these equations, here are the five players that CSK might look to retain.

5. Matheesa Pathirana

The young Sri Lankan pacer, Matheesha Pathirana, has been an important part of the team since his arrival in 2022. Under the mentorship of MS Dhoni, he has evolved as a bowler and emerged as one of the vital assets of the team. With his age on his side, his potential for the future core is promising, making his retention by CSK ahead of IPL 2025 a hopeful prospect.

4. Ravindra Jadeja

The Indian all-rounder has been integral to the CSK setup since his induction into the squad ahead of IPL 2012. Ravindra Jadeja has not only been an effective contributor with the bat and all, but his fielding has often changed the course of many important games for the team. Besides his on-field contributions, Jadeja has become part of the leadership core. Given his importance in the CSK setup and how he has delivered for them, Ravindra Jadeja will be one of the players the franchise will look to retain.

3. Shivam Dube

The Indian all-rounder has seen a drastic rise in his career since he arrived in CSK. The CSK management has used Shivam Dube with great tactical awareness, which has made him an integral part of the setup. Dube's contribution in the last couple of seasons will certainly make him a part of the retention list ahead of IPL 2025.

2. Ruturaj Gaikwad

The Indian batter has been handed over the captaincy of the team last season. Ruturaj Gaikwad has made himself a valuable part of the team with his performances and the leadership abilities he showed last year. The rising Indian star will be among the first two names CSK will keep on their retention list for IPL 205.

1. MS Dhoni

CSK and MS Dhoni have become almost synonymous. The Indian legend has been a part of the squad since the inception of the league. MS Dhoni has led CSK to five IPL titles, making them one of the best teams in the league. The love affair between MS Dhoni and CSK is expected to continue if the player decides to play for one more season. The way CSK is pushing to make his retention a reality, it is likely that MSD will be the first name on the retention list of CSK for IPL 2025.
