We are moving closer to the auction for IPL 2025, and with retention rules out now, everyone is busy chalking out auction strategies for different teams. The BCCI has allowed six retentions this time around, with one uncapped player necessary. Despite more options available than the previous mega auction, there are likely to be some big players who will miss out on the retention list.

Rajasthan Royals, the franchise that enjoyed a bit of revival in the last cycle, would have to make some tough decisions ahead of the mega auction. They have plenty of superstars in their arsenal, but because of auction dynamics, not all of them can be included. So, here are the three players that RR will have to leave out before the mega auction -

Trent Boult

The star Kiwi pacer played a big role in Rajasthan Royals' success in the last few years. He took wickets on regular basis in the Powerplay, and quite often gave Samson's boys a huge headstart with early breakthroughs. He picked 45 wickets from 2022 season for RR and most of those wickets were of top order batters which makes his role in the team very crucial. However, a franchise in IPL require a strong Indian core for their long-term success, and with RR boasting of some star Indian players in their ranks, Trent Boult is likely to miss the cut.

Age is also one of the factors, and with Boult already now 35-year-old, Rajasthan Royals would have to leave him out keeping in mind the long-term future of the franchise.

Ravi Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin, the legendary Indian offie is also set to miss the cut. Ashwin provided great utility with his all-round skills, but retaining him would mean that RR would have to leave out one of their young batters or Chahal, which looks highly unlikely. Ashwin though would be a big miss for RR as he bailed them out of trouble on quite a few occasions in the last three seasons both with the bat and ball.

However, keeping in mind the other options at disposal and age factor too, Ashwin's absence like Boult would be another big loss for RR.

Shimron Hetmyer

The swashbuckling southpaw played the role of finisher with perfection for Rajasthan Royals. In the 2022 season, when RR reached the final, Hetmyer was the one middle-order batter who always stepped up in crunch run chases, which made him an invaluable asset. However, with limited retention options and a huge quality at RR's disposal, Shimron Hetmyer is likely to miss out on the retention list.

As mentioned earlier, IPL franchises need to keep their Indian core intact for long-term success, so despite Hetmyer's world-class skills, Rajasthan Royals would have to leave him out.
