Netherlands are in for their toughest spin trial of the ICC World Cup 2023 on Indian shores with the match-up against Sri Lanka on a dry pitch in Lucknow on Saturday (October 21).

The spirited Dutch are heading into the Lions' den, about to be tested with their techniques and footwork against the incisive duo of Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage.

The emerging European rivals have historically been battered and bruised by the Lankans' traditional strength and the context of a World Cup league game is bound to add to their pressure.

What would help act as a major confidence booster, however, is the fact that they're coming on the back of a remarkable upset victory against South Africa.

Unlike Sri Lanka, who have suffered a trio of defeats at the beginning of their campaign, the Dutch are on board after overcoming painstaking losses to Pakistan and New Zealand with arguably their greatest triumph to date.

Like the rest of their associate brethren, mystery spin has been the stiffest challenge for the inexperienced Netherlands, who hardly ever get the chance to flex their muscles and test their growth against formidable oppositions between World Cups. The Netherlands have lost all five of their previous One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka.
