Hobart Hurricanes will come face to face with Sydney Thunder in the 29th fixture of the Big Bash League 2024-25 season. The highly anticipated clash is scheduled on January 10 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart from 1.45 PM IST.

Hobart Hurricanes

Hobart Hurricanes are seated third in the points table with nine points in six games. In their previous game against the Adelaide Strikers, the Hurricanes chased down a 187-run total in 18.4 overs. After a blazing start from the openers, Tim David took over charge to slam a quick 62 off just 28 balls.

His stupendous inning included six mega maximums and three boundaries. However, despite the five-wicket victory against Strikers, the Hurricanes' bowling attack, especially in the death overs, remains a concern. The likes of Nathan Ellis and Chris Tremain will need to step up to contain Thunder's explosive lineup in the final stages.

Sydney Thunder

On the other hand, Sydney Thunder are leading the points table with nine points in seven games. While three teams are tied with nine points each, the Thunder hold an edge because of their superior NRR (+0.167). However, they lost the previous game against Brisbane Heat as the bowling unit failed to defend a total of 173.

Max Bryant took the game away with 72 off 35 balls blazing knock. Wes Agar was severely expensive, as he allowed 61 runs in 3.5 overs. Regardless, for the upcoming contest, the return of young opener Sam Konstas will add more firepower to Thunder's batting order. Overall, the Thunder will look to bounce back and maintain their dominance against the Hurricanes.

How will the Bellerive Oval pitch behave?

The pitch of Bellerive Oval is expected to assist fast bowlers in the initial phase of the first inning. Significant lateral movement is likely early on, which could trouble batters who are not technically sound. However, as the game progresses, the pitch tends to settle, making shot-making easier for batters.

The average first-innings score at this venue is a modest 144, indicating the difficulty of setting up big totals. Teams chasing have a strong record here, given the dew factor and better batting conditions under lights. Moreover, with rain interruption likely, chasing would be a good choice for the winning captain.
