The game of cricket is a great learning experience for every player. Sometimes you are at the peak of your power, and sometimes, you may witness the great downfall. Pakistan star, Babar Azam, witnessed the same phenomenon until December 2022, when he was one of the best Test batters of his era.

However, in the last three years, things have fallen down drastically, and now two youngsters have surpassed him. India’s young brigade, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal have leapfrogged Babar in the last three years, and surprisingly, Jaiswal made his Test debut 1.5 years ago, and has already become better than the Pakistan star.

• Since 2023, Gill has racked up 8 hundreds, out of which 5 have alone come in 2025. Meanwhile, Jaiswal has gone at a rapid pace since his Test debut in 2023. In the space of just 1.5 years, the youngster has 7 Test tons, and all of them have come in different venues.
• Meanwhile, Babar, who had 9 centuries by 2022, has failed to add to his tally and has zero hundreds in the next three years.

• Babar, who has been playing Test cricket since 2016, has only one Test hundred, and it came against Australia in Brisbane. Apart from that, he hasn’t done much on SENA tours for Pakistan. Meanwhile, that’s not the case with Gill and Jaiswal.
• In the recently concluded England Test series, captain Gill smacked four centuries on the tour, and created history. On the other hand, in his short Test journey, Jaiswal already has 3 hundreds in SENA nations, showcasing his ability to adjust in tricky conditions.
• So, a player who has been playing for almost a decade has one SENA ton, while the two Indian players, who just became household names have already surpassed his legacy.

Final verdict

Babar may be a good ODI batter, but in Tests, his short legacy has been surpassed by the Indian duo. One of those players is Jaiswal, who has only been around for 1.5 years. The other one is Gill, who already has 8 Test centuries, since the last time Babar had one.
