The IPL 2025 was suspended for a week on May 9 due to growing tensions between India and Pakistan. The overseas players have returned to their respective countries, but now after the ceasefire, there are reports that BCCI is planning to resume IPL as soon as possible.

If the tournament does start around 16-17 May, or later in the month, there is possibility that some of the overseas players might not comeback for the remainder of matches. It might include star players from different teams who were critical for their team and were performing well this season. Let's see three of those players here.

Jos Buttler

The English batter is a world-class batter and after consistent performances for RR over the years, he is doing the same for GT in IPL 2025. As shown in the table below, he has not only scored runs, but has done that with great strike-rate, playing a big role in GT's success this year.

However, he is now 34-year-old and was reportedly in the first batch of players to leave India when the tensions rose. The Englishman also has a young family, and thus it seems highly unlikely that he would be in the mental state to return to India just few days after he went back home. There is also an ODI series between England and West Indies from May 29, thus Buttler could make a tough decision of not returning back for the remainder of IPL 2025.

Mitchell Starc

The Australian pacer is a critical part of DC's bowling attack and has done well in IPL 2025, especially in the first half. However, IPL is a long tournament which takes a toll on the body, and Starc with his injury-prone nature did not look fresh in the recent games.

Now, he has left India and was supposed to reach Australia on May 11. Thus, if IPL starts in the few days time he would have to take a flight back as soon as possible, and it could bring extra fatigue for the pacer who has always prioritize national commitment over IPL. Also, if DC do not qualify for the playoffs, there will be just three matches, so travelling all the way from Australia to India might not be practical for the pacer currently.

Josh Hazlewood

Josh Hazlewood has been the pick of the bowlers for RCB this season, and has played a big role in their positive results. The Australian pacer though has been battling injuries in recent times and even missed the game against RR due to injury. Also, he came back from an series of injuries in IPL, so he might prioritize staying fresh and fit for national duties instead of IPL.

Just like Starc, he would have to do lot of travelling to get back to India immediately. There is also an important WTC final coming up, and thus, Hazlewood might not be seen bowling for RCB in IPL 2025 if it resumes in May.
