3 reasons for India's downfall [Source: @CricCrazyJohns/X.Com]
India witnessed an all-time high when they defeated South Africa to clinch the T20 World Cup title. Many expected the team to go further up as a unit and maintain their dominance, however, it has been a downfall since the T20 World Cup triumph. The team lost the ODIs Vs Sri Lanka, lost the home Tests Vs New Zealand and it was followed by thrashing Vs Australia.
When Gautam Gambhir became the head coach of the team, there was a sense of optimism, but it soon turned into a negative thought as the coach failed to deliver the goods and alongside him, the senior players weren't at their best as the team suffered across formats. Indian cricket is at an all-time low, and in this piece, we'll talk about 3 reasons why Indian cricket is going down.
3) Gambhir's stubborn nature
My way or high way, this has been Gautam Gambhir's mantra as the head coach of the Indian side. Tactically he has failed to adapt as the head coach and this has been India's biggest problem.
For the first time in Indian history, a coach was given everything he demanded. He wanted Morne Morkel as bowling coach, he got that. He needed Abhishek Nayyar in his coaching department, he got that, and yet, the results were nowhere to be found. Gambhir gives the impression of someone who wants everyone to follow his ideologies, but that is not possible since every player is different and every player needs to be coached differently.
In press conferences, Gambhir gives big statements, but fails to back it up as the team is yet to perform under his guiadance.
2) Senior players not performing
Whenever India plays, the fans expect Virat Kohli and Rohit Shama to give their best and win games for India. However, post the T20 World Cup, it hasn't happened. The two senior most players look clueless and had a stinker in the Test series Vs New Zealand. A lot was expected of the duo in the Australia Tests, but once again, they had a shocking performance.
Virat Kohli did manage to score a Test ton at Perth, but he failed in the remaining matches. Rohit, on the other hand had three shocking performances in Adelaide, Gabba and MCG Test, and opted out of the 5th Test due to poor form.
1) Rift in the Indian team
Constant talks of rift between the Indian players and the head coach has popped up after the series loss Vs Australia. It seems as if there is no unity within the team and everyone is focusing on individual brilliance.
There have been news coming out regarding the difference of opinion between Rohit and Gambhir, recently there were rumours that Gambhir and Morkel are not in talking terms. Such things create difference within the team and the performances gets affected.
