According to emerging reports, India head coach Gautam Gambhir had an altercation with bowling coach Morne Morkel during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Gambhir's Fall Out With Morkel During BGT 2024-25
As per The Times Of India (TOI), India's bowling coach Morne Morkel joined one of the training sessions late due to a personal meeting. This didn't go well with the head coach Gautam Gambhir, who reprimanded him for his indisciplined action.
"Gambhir is very strict about discipline. He reprimanded Morkel immediately at the ground. The board has been told that Morkel was a bit reserved during the rest of the tour. It's up to these two to sort it out for the team to function smoothly," a source was quoted as saying by TOI.
Question Marks Over Abhishek Nayar's Coaching Credentials
The BCCI is apparently considering evaluating the performance of India's support staff after the team's underwhelming outings in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Batting coach Abhishek Nayar, in particular, finds himself in troubled waters, after Indian batters' repeated failures on the tour.
The report claims that the BCCI has sought the players' feedback on Nayar while also monitoring Ryan ten Doeschate's performance as assistant coach.
"Batting coach Abhishek Nayar is particularly under the scanner. Gambhir himself has been an accomplished batter. The board has asked the players if Nayar is bringing anything new to the table. Similarly, the assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate's role is being discussed. His lack of international experience and ability to contribute to enhancing an international cricketer's performance has been questioned," the source added.
India Prepare For England Series
Meanwhile, amid all the chaos regarding the team environment, team India aims at redemption in the upcoming England home series. The tour comprises five T20Is and three ODIs, which will be India's final dress rehearsal before the Champions Trophy.
