England vs West Indies Preview - (X.com)England vs West Indies Preview - (X.com)

On Thursday, July 18, England will take on West Indies in the second Test of the three-match series. The two teams will lock horns at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

The Three Lions are coming off a win as they registered a comfortable victory by an innings and 114 runs in the opening Test match.

For the upcoming match, England have announced their line-up, and as expected, James Anderson, who played his last international game at Lord's, is out of the playing XI and replaced by Mark Wood.

This article will shed light on the preview, pitch report, and playing XI of the upcoming Test between England and West Indies.

Team Preview

England

The Three Lions are looking good going into the 2nd Test, as they had a near-perfect game in the first Test. The Ben Stokes-led side were excellent with the bat and ball and also hogged the internet for their fielding.

England would look to reply on Joe Root and Harry Brook with the bat as they scored fifty-plus scores in the first game. Meanwhile, Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope too had scored half-centuries.

Debutant Jamie Smith was also impressive with the bat and scored 70 (119).

In the bowling, Gus Atkinson stole the limelight from James Anderson as he picked up a seven wicket-haul on his debut innings and a fifer in the second innings. Now with Mark Wood into the attack, England would look to trouble the Windies with their pace.

West Indies

There is a lot of improvement to be done by the Windies ahead of the second match, as they failed to read the situation in the opening game, and their batters were a big letdown.

No batter scored a fifty-plus score in the two innings they batted, and the only positive for them was Gudakesh Motie. Notably, he was the Windies' top scorer in the second innings with a score of 31 and also took two wickets, including the magical delivery he bowled to Ben Stokes.

Compared to Lord's, batters will have it relatively easier to score runs at Trent Bridge as swing starts to fade away after the first hour of play. Nonetheless, bowlers can still restrict the teams to a low total and pose challenge to the batters.
