On Friday, Sri Lanka will lock horns with India in the first ODI of the three-match series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Led by Charith Asalanka, the Lankan Lions suffered an embarrassing three-nil series defeat in the T20Is.

Therefore, they would be keen to bounce back and give the Indians a run for their money in the ODI leg.

The hosts have suffered two massive setbacks ahead of the series, with Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka being ruled out of the series.

So, as the Lankan Lions gear up for the ODI series opener, let's analyse and see what could be their playing XI for the high-voltage clash.

Sri Lanka's probable playing XI for 1st ODI vs India

Sri Lanka's top-order looks rock-solid, studded with the dynamic trio of Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis.

Sadeera Samarawickrama, who has significantly evolved as an ODI batter, will play a key role at number four. He will be followed by Charith Asalanka, who recently replaced Wanindu Hasaranga as Sri Lanka's white-ball captain

The eyes will also be on Janith Liyanage, who has rescued the Lankans from precarious situations in ODIs of late.

As Sri Lanka don't have two of their frontline pacers, they might prefer to have a deep batting lineup, comprising spin bowling allrounders Wanindu Hasaranga and Dunith Wellalage.

Maheesh Theekshana will be the third spinner, with Asitha Fernando leading the pace attack alongside Mohamed Shiraz, who has an impressive List-A record.
