India’s domestic season roars back to life with the Duleep Trophy 2025 and this time it’s the old-school zonal format. The curtain-raiser has North Zone locking horns with East Zone and even though Shubman Gill will miss out, there is still enough star power to make this a box-office clash.

The stakes are high, the players are hungry and the selectors will be watching every ball like hawks. Let’s take a look at 5 players to watch out for in Duleep Trophy 2025.

5. Sarfaraz Khan

Sarfaraz Khan is a man on a mission. He has been scoring mountains of runs in domestic cricket but somehow keeps missing the India bus. After being snubbed for the England tour, he knows this Duleep Trophy is another chance to bang the door down.

Fresh off a century in the Buchi Babu tournament, Sarfaraz looks in good nick. If he gets going in this clash, North Zone will have a rock-solid middle order and the selectors will be left with no choice but to take notice.

4. Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh has already made a name for himself as India’s top T20I wicket-taker, but his red-ball credentials are still in the proving stage. He was picked for the England Test series but didn’t get a game and a hand injury ruled him out of the fourth Test.

This Duleep clash is a golden chance for him to display his skills with the red ball. A tall left-arm quick who can swing it both ways, Arshdeep could be a real handful if conditions offer even a little help.

3. Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma has been earmarked as one of India’s brightest young talents in white-ball cricket, but he is itching to stamp his name in the longest format. With the middle order still unsettled in India’s Test team, the Duleep Trophy is the perfect stage for Tilak to show he can bat long and tough.

His leadership skills also come into play here and if he can marshal his side while scoring runs at No. 3 or 6, he will make a strong case to wear the whites for India sooner rather than later.

2. Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav has been a match-winner in limited-overs cricket, but his red-ball story has had too many pauses. Despite Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement, Kuldeep hasn’t quite sealed his spot in Tests with Washington Sundar often getting the nod for his batting.

But make no mistake, at his best, Kuldeep can bamboozle even the best in the world. This Duleep outing is crucial for him. A strong performance here will show everyone why wrist spin remains one of India’s deadliest weapons in any format.

1. Mohammed Shami

All eyes will be on Mohammed Shami. At 34, he finds himself at a crossroads. With long-time teammates like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ashwin and Cheteshwar Pujara already retired, Shami’s own future looks uncertain after being dropped for the England tour.

His IPL 2025 form for Sunrisers was far from convincing and fitness questions continue to linger. But the Duleep Trophy is the perfect chance for a second wind. If Shami can steam in and rattle a few stumps, he will show everyone that class is permanent even if form is temporary.
