Soumya Sarkar shined for Bangladesh Green [Source: @ICC/x.com]
Bangladesh’s cricketers had a dress rehearsal in Sylhet on Sunday but what was supposed to be a tight intra-squad clash turned into a one-sided affair. Jaker Ali’s Green Team completely outplayed Litton Das’ Red Team at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium and sealed a thumping win.
Green Pile Up A Mountain Of Runs
Litton Das won the toss and sent the Green side in. That move backfired almost instantly. Soumya Sarkar, who isn’t even in the current national squad, rolled back the years with a fluent 41 off 29 balls. His innings was full of classy strokes that reminded everyone of his old touch.
Young gun Mahfijul Islam Robin played with freedom, cracking 44 off 27 balls with seven fours and a six. Captain Jaker Ali added the finishing touches with an unbeaten 35 off 23. There were handy cameos from Najmul Hossain Shanto (21 off 12) and Mahedi Hasan (17 off 12) too.
By the time the dust settled, the Greens had posted a mammoth 203 for 5 in 20 overs. The Reds looked flat in the field and the scoreboard pressure was already sky-high.
Reds Crumble In The Chase
If the Green innings was full of fireworks, the Red response was the exact opposite. Tanzid Hasan Tamim scratched his way to 8, Parvez Hossain Emon fell cheaply for 1 and suddenly the chase looked like climbing Everest without oxygen.
Skipper Litton Das tried to steady the ship with 33 off 27 balls, but wickets kept tumbling. The only bright spark was Towhid Hridoy, who went ballistic with a sensational 66 off 27 balls. He smashed three fours and six sixes before being run out by Shanto. Once he walked back, the Reds had no fight left and were bundled out for 135.
The Green bowlers bowled with fire in their belly. Mohammad Saifuddin and Shoriful Islam bagged three wickets apiece, Taskin Ahmed chipped in with two while Nasum Ahmed picked up one. They hunted in packs and never allowed the Reds to breathe easy.
