The wait is almost over as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to commence on March 22 with teams fighting it out for the coveted title. More than 70 matches will be contested which will decide the new winner as the excitement has reached its peak even before the start.
All the focus will be on some brilliant batters in the tournament, but make no mistake, bowlers are equally important and will define the outcome in many matches. With the batters fighting for Orange Cap, the bowlers will have the Purple Cap in their sight and here are 3 players from RCB, CSK and MI who are likely to become the new Purple Cap holder.
1) Bhuvneshwar Kumar (RCB)

A two time winner of the Purple Cap in IPL history, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has all the skillset in the world to become the first player with three Purple caps in the league. Bought by RCB in the mega auction, Bhuvneshwar will have to lead the inexperienced bowling attack.
Age may not be at his side, but the Indian pacer certainly has the skills and the wicket-taking ability to trouble the opposition and he could become a 3-time Purple Cap winner.
2) Matheesha Pathirana (CSK)

Matheesha Pathirana has had a short IPL career so far, but it has been an effective one as the CSK pacer has been a mainstay of the bowling attack and is their best wicket-taking option.
In just 20 matches, he has 34 wickets, and the most impressive part is the average and the economy rate of the bowler. Once again he'll be the key player and if he stays injury fit, then there could be a good chance that he'll be the winner of the Purple Cap, an award which he deserves after showcasing his skills in the last two seasons.
3) Trent Boult (MI)

With his partner in crime, Jasprit Bumrah likely to miss a few games of the IPL 2025 season, Trent Boult, the comeback man for Mumbai Indians will need to shoulder the responsibility to deliver the goods. In the last few seasons, he has often come close to winning the Purple Cap, but he couldn't cross the line.
The Wankhede surface where he'll play 7 home matches will favour his style of bowling and Boult could be a dark horse to win the coveted Purple Cap award.
