The Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner and ten teams will fight it out for the coveted title as the season will commence on March 22. One of the favourites for the competition will be the ever-formidable, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) under the guidance of Ruturaj Gaikwad.

In the mega auction, the Super Kings played smartly and bought some of its former players back to assemble a strong team. Their batting in particular looks solid, however, they do have a couple of choices to make in batting department, mainly deciding on the opening slot.

Here is CSK's possible batting combination, with a surprise omission at the top of the order.

No Conway, Ravindra to open for CSK

CSK have a big dilemma in their hands when it comes to the opening slot. While Devon Conway has done well in recent years for them and was pivotal in the 2023 title win, Ravindra is in the form of his life and should be given the preference over his national teammate.

(Ravindra, Conway stats in Champions Trophy)

As the stats suggests, New Zealand also preferred Ravindra over Conway in the lineup and it due to his all-round abilities as well. Unlike Conway, Ravindra can deliver with the ball as well and the wickets in Chepauk will suit his bowling. Hence, stats-plus conditions if we combine them Ravindra has to open the innings.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad will be the other one to open alongside Ravindra and the righty-lefty combination will take CSK further in the competition.

Indian trio to form a strong middle order

The Indian trio of Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Hooda and Shivam Dube will form the middle order. All three have done well in the IPL, especially Dube, who has become an integral member of the CSK side.

As the numbers suggests, the trio have done well in the past in IPL and should do the job once again in the upcoming season.

Two solid all-rounders at 6, 7

In Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, CSK have two reliable options to finish off in style. Jadeja, in the last few seasons has taken the finisher's role upon himself and Curran in recent times has done well in franchise leagues.

The two have enough experience in the IPL and should do the job easily, with MS Dhoni to follow at number 8, who has taken a backseat in recent seasons and mainly comes if the situation requires him to bat.
